What we do

Practical community projects in rural Monmouthshire.

Each Pubtopia project is grounded in real, local need — connection, essentials, wellbeing and creative life.

Community Shop

What started as our community village shop is growing into a wider access-to-essentials project — supporting local businesses, keeping more money within the community and reducing unnecessary rural journeys.

Sample stock includes milk, bread, flour, butter, eggs, bacon, sausages, pork pies, granola, soap, chutneys, chocolate, and local artist and craft works.

The Community Shop is open during The Halfway's opening hours. Our community vending hub is being introduced to help widen access to essentials outside pub opening hours.

  • Seating and shelter

  • Internal pub toilets during pub opening hours
  • Community vending being introduced

Dementia & Memory Loss Friendly Openings

On the last Friday of every month, 12:00 – 14:00, we open a welcoming, relaxed space for people living with dementia or memory loss, along with their families and carers.

Warm and non-clinical, with a small affordable menu and relaxed live music — somewhere to chat and not feel alone.

Creative & Wellbeing Workshops

Our wellbeing and creative workshops bring people together to learn new skills, support local artists and craftspeople, reduce rural isolation and improve wellbeing through shared creative experiences.

Past examples include chunky knitting, wreath making, forest foraging, glass workshops, lino printing, felt, ceramics, gardening — and practical skills sessions such as CPR and defibrillator training.

Bell Tent Stays

From March 2027, stay in one of our three cosy, family and dog-friendly Bell Tents in the fields behind The Halfway, near Abergavenny, and become part of the Pubtopia story.

Facilities are simple in this early stage, but every stay helps us improve the site, fund community projects and work towards our future respite breaks for families.

Respite Breaks

Launching 2027

Launching in 2027, our respite breaks aim to offer free countryside stays for families caring for a young person with a life-limiting or terminal illness.

Every stay, workshop booking and purchase through Pubtopia helps support the work of the CIC and moves us closer to making these special breaks possible.
